One hundred and fifty delegates, twenty-four nationalities and five global design leaders. On Wednesday 13th February 2019, the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam opened its doors to welcome the packaging, design and branding community for the debut Pentawards Live event, powered by Packaging Innovations Netherlands.

The audience, made up of leading domestic and international design agencies, brands, material specialists and technology innovators in packaging, were given unprecedented access to life in design at some of the most recognisable fortune 500 brands.

Keynote speakers included packaging and design leaders:

Mauro Porcini, SVP & Chief Design Officer - PepsiCo

Denise Siebert, Vice President Design - Global Kellogg Company

Kevin Marshall, Creative Director of Design, Packaging & Content - Microsoft

Ann Chen, Design & Visual Identity Leader, Johnnie Walker - Diageo

Tatiana Ryfer, Branding & Visual Identity Global Manager - Carrefour

This made for a stimulating day, in a setting where the elite global Pentawards community could learn, share and inspire together.

Adam Ryan, Head of the Pentawards, comments “We couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome of the first Pentawards Live event. There was an incredible energy in the room, with an eclectic mix of esteemed Pentawards winners, design agencies, world renowned brands and the most innovative companies in the packaging supply chain. It was amazing to see our community come together and support this launch event and the initial feedback has been exceptional. Plans are already underway for a follow up Pentawards Live event but first our focus now shifts to the Pentawards competition, which will open for entries on the 25th February 2019”

In addition to the International conference, visitors were able to attend free-of-charge, the Live Expo area where established Dutch design agencies exhibited alongside material and technology innovators in packaging.

Another content area at the event was the free-to-attend Design Intelligence Theatre, where speakers were handpicked to present relevant themes, topics and ideas in packaging, design and branding to the international audience. In particular, the panel discussion hosted by UPM Raflatac was a standout session, as United Dutch Breweries, DesignBridge, PROUDdesign, VBAT Group and Endangered Species explored the future of packaging design with hosts Lee Walker-Quinn and Stefano Pistoni of UPM Raflatac.

Pentawards would like to thank everyone in attendance for their support of Pentawards Live and look forward to welcoming new and existing friends to the next edition.
