For more than 20 years, Harvey Nichols monochrome, photographic food packaging was the last word in style. Youthful, exciting and completely different from anything that had gone before, when it launched in 1994, it became an immediate design icon and symbol of Cool Britannia, Ab Fab London in the early 90s.
23 years on and that icon had started to fade. As well as looking and feeling its age, it was increasingly difficult for Harvey Nichols to use effectively in-store. So in 2017, we were asked to bid it a fond farewell and entirely reimagine food for Harvey Nichols.
This presentation will explain the journey we went on with Harvey Nichols to get to the answer. Together we have created a powerful new design icon, that captures today’s zeitgeist, just like its predecessor did, and which, like the store itself, delights and appeals to a whole new generation of tastemakers and fashionistas.

For the past 20+ years, he has worked alongside Kevin Shaw, founder of Stranger & Stranger, in building the award-winning packaging consultancy and overseeing design from their locations in London, New York and San Francisco. Stranger’s client base is diverse, from well-known global brands to new start-ups. Ivan is passionate about brands that disrupt and stand out.
