We speak to Taghleef Industries, leading global manufacturer of packaging films and Pentawards sponsor, about their expertise, approach to design collaboration, and the latest innovations in film technology

For those who may not know, who is Taghleef Industries and what’s your core area of expertise?

Taghleef Industries is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of films for packaging, labels, and technical applications. Our portfolio is built primarily on polypropylene solutions, complemented by biobased alternatives that open new end-of-life pathways—including options designed for home compostability. With the addition of films containing recycled content, we are broadening the choices available to brands and packaging designers, offering advanced materials that deliver high performance while meeting evolving legislation that varies across global markets.

Why is choosing the right type of film so crucial in packaging design?

Taghleef Industries understands the complex challenges designers face when turning ideas into reality. For packaging designers, selecting the right film is not just a technical choice—it is a creative decision that influences every stage of a product’s lifecycle, from sourcing to disposal. The material chosen shapes how consumers encounter and interpret the brand. Sustainability is a priority, but it must be balanced with cost efficiency, functional performance, and visual impact. Packaging must protect and preserve, but it also needs to communicate value, differentiate on the shelf, and contribute positively to the user experience. With consumer expectations shifting and regulations growing more complex, designing for recyclability and circularity has moved from a consideration to a requirement. In this context, transparency and credibility in material claims are just as critical as innovation.

An example is our SHAPE360® range of premium polyolefin shrink-sleeve films that enables bold 360° graphics, enhancing shelf impact and brand storytelling while supporting seamless PET bottle recycling.

Can you share example of projects you have recently worked on or are developing?

Our product innovations highlight our commitment to advancing both performance and sustainability. Recent additional examples include recycle-ready bags with a premium finish, offering a PP-based alternative to traditionally hard-to-recycle packaging. These solutions provide superior aroma and flavour protection while delivering a refined, high-quality look and feel.

Another project at the premium end of visual communication is Derprosa® Sandy film, perfect for book covers as it offers a distinctive tactile matte finish that engages consumers and transforms printed materials into memorable, high-value experiences. Additionally, we are expanding our NATIVIA® range with bio-based films designed for home compostability, supporting the transition toward more circular and environmentally responsible packaging solutions.

How do you support designers in bringing their packaging concepts to life?

We see our role not simply as a material supplier, but as a partner in the packaging design process.

What advice would you give designers exploring film materials for the first time?

For those exploring film materials for the first time, our advice is straightforward: start with the product’s needs. Consider barrier requirements, shelf-life expectations, and the desired consumer experience, but also look beyond the product to the full lifecycle of the packaging—how it will be collected, recycled, reused, or responsibly disposed of. Engaging early with film specialists can save time and resources, ensuring the design is optimised from the outset and reducing the risk of costly revisions later.

Taghleef Industries sponsored the Diamond Award handout at the 2025 Gala. Why is partnering with Pentawards meaningful to you, and what were your impressions of the winning project, Tilt?

Our sponsorship of the Diamond Award at the 2025 Pentawards Gala reflects our belief in the power of design to shape the future of packaging. Partnering with Pentawards is meaningful to us because it celebrates the creativity, innovation, and values that drive our work.

The winning project, Tilt, stood out for its bold narrative and innovative material use—an inspiring example of how design can elevate packaging beyond functionality to create an emotional, brand-defining experience.

Looking ahead, what will be Taghleef Industries’ main focus in the coming years?

As we look ahead, our commitment remains clear. We will continue to deepen our expertise in packaging films, strengthen collaboration across the value chain, and evolve our portfolio in line with emerging legislation. For designers, this means having access to materials and insights that empower them to create packaging that is not only beautiful, but also responsible, compliant, and effective.
