Noreste’s gift with an infinite life cycle

Back Noreste’s gift with an infinite life cycle

The Barcelona-based studio creates a complete packaging and product design for their unique everlasting candle from entirely recycled and reusable materials.

Every year Noreste studio thank their clients with an annual gift. 2020, however, proved a very different year with a new set of challenges so they decided to create something that would reach out, offering support and gratitude in these difficult times.

The Barcelona based studio decided to create a product completely made of recycled and reusable materials with an infinite life cycle. With its marble-like appearance, the casing for the candle is made using eco-efficient recycled concrete that produces an asymmetrical, versatile result, with each object different and authentic.

An edge of each casing is left as textured, broken rock to generate a dialogue between a clean, minimalist aesthetic and the raw natural material used.

For the candles themselves, Noreste collaborated with Cerería Subirá, a local family business with more than 250 years of history under their belt. Using recycled wax and a wood pellet to produce a more lasting and pleasant combustion, the candles boast three very warm fragrances: Honey, Pine and Cedar and each are given their own colour coding to match the natural paper colours of the packaging, generating a balanced and organic composition.

Continuing the drive for sustainability, recycled Kraft cardboard is used for the exterior packaging, celebrating its nude, elegant colour. For the interior nest, Noreste used Gmund Bier Paper which is elaborated using hints of hops, malt, yeast and organic pigments and made to fit each unique candle case. These particular papers, bother supplied by GF Smith, were selected for their elegance, soft touch, earthy tones and artisanal essence. When the candle is from the nest, text is revealed with a message conveying peace and hope from studio to client.

Once the candle is finished, the piece can be re-used as a flowerpot, a jewelry dish, among other things.

“The imagination has no limits especially for those who have this piece in their hands.”
