Calce is the Spumante Metodo Classico Brut by San Marzano Wines that embodies the region of Apulia, Southern Italy inside and out. Apulia sits on the southern peninsular met by two seas, the Ionian and the Adriatic flanked by white coastal rocks and home to rows of traditional white stone buildings.
The white city Ostuni in Apulia (Italy)
With an aim to reflect the region, Italian design studio Usopposto utilizes this iconically Mediterranean white stone aesthetic, turning it into the driving force for the label design. Double overlapping paper with uneven layers and rough edges recreates the look and feel of the white stone walls, its rough touch imitates a sense of age earnt through repeated repainting and erosion by wind and sun exposure.
Mixtures of embossing and debossing emphasises the tactile experience and the use of gold foil to create light points contrasts with the matte paint and brown colour used for the name Calce.
