In celebration of the 100th birthday of their iconic fragrance, Chanel have released a new limited-edition collection, Factory 5.

The Pop Art inspired collection consists of seventeen limited- edition bath and body products with No 5 as their sole ingredient. The products, ranging from body oils, lotions, shower gels and bath tablets, are contained within subversive packaging and showcased in pop-up ‘factory’ retail experiences that playfully recreate the Chanel production process for public viewing.

The experiential “factories” are located in Paris, Monterrey, Seoul, Chengdu, Hong Kong, Kyoto and London Selfridges with each site elaborated with colourful Pop Art inspired product shots echoing Andy Warhol’s famous depiction of Chanel No. 5 in his “Ad Series 1985.”

The seventeen scented products are packaged as ordinary items, from body cream in artists' paint tubes, bath tablets in a tea jar to shower gel in a paint tin, but reimagined with the infamous monochromatic Chanel aesthetic, iconic font and sleek black border detailing.

By taking popular consumer items out of their context and dressing them up in the aesthetics of No 5, we return to Chanel’s first creative gesture: that of transforming a functional object into a desirable luxury item .” - Thomas du Pré de Saint Maur, Head of Global Creative Resources Fragrance and Beauty

This subversive, Pop Art style packaging design sets out to shake up expectations, driven by Coco Chanel’s lifelong ethos to forever challenge the norm, to be free from constraints and always have an ability to reinvent herself.

As a further twist to the collection, the iconic fragrance is reintroduced in its original packaging from 1921 – a simple glass factory bottle, initially called "No. 5" referring to the first samples that were tested.

The Factory 5 collection will run in selected stores and online until 31st August.
