The Brazilian design agency takes a scientific approach to brand and visual identity design for BrAuN London Dry Gin.
BrAuN emerged from a long family history of uniting chemistry and distillery. From the old English alchemists mixing juniper to alcohol to BrAuN’s high quality dry gin carefully concocted by father and son duo.
Ismo Design’s brand strategy and visual identity is rooted in storytelling, using the Braun tradition of merging chemistry with distilling as the narrative driving force. Inspiration is drawn from the periodic table throughout the typography and detailing, particularly in the logotype – (Br) Bromine (Au) Gold (N) Nitrogen. The shape of the bottle resembles chemical glassware commonly used by apothecaries in the past and the rig-cut label edges resemble those found on more scientific containers.
The decorative element to the side, featuring gold hot stamping, evokes the image of chemical reactions, similar to what might be seen through a microscope. Ragged edges, specially developed for the project, emphasizes the effect. The gold aspects and layered printing builds a texture feel, creating a tactile and sensorial element.
Through Ismo Design’s concept, the packaging becomes an extension of the brand experience: “to distil stories and extract more than chemical bonds: human bonds”. Using storytelling as a project solution generates value and distinction within the market by forming visceral bonds with consumers.
