Backbar Studio’s unique rebrand for African grown Bayab Gin

Back Backbar Studio’s unique rebrand for African grown Bayab Gin

Backbar Studio’s smart rebrand encapsulates what is at the heart of this distinct, bold spirit: it’s motherland and the people who create it.

Bayab is a premium Gin proudly grown in Africa. Copper distilled in small batches using locally grown sugarcane, bountiful African botanicals and blended with the water from the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal.

Taking inspiration from the spirit’s lead ingredient, the Baobab fruit, Backbar Studio created a distinctive dotted pattern that permeates the label, further emboldened by a vibrant colour pallet and foils that communicate the uniquely African botanicals and flavours.

Natural paper stock and blind embossing techniques provide an earthy textured quality, featuring traditional ZULU patterns.

The logo type further exemplifies the spirit’s heritage through iconic sharp edges and angles, mirrored symmetry and inner lines within the typeface reflecting traditional South African typography.

Though much inspiration has been taken from traditional styles, Bayab Gin maintains a look and feel that is contemporary and effortless, while proudly paying homage to its deep roots.
