Lithuanian design studio Great & Golden’s subversive label and packaging design offers a more feminine touch for new whiskey blend Queen and Mouse.
King & Mouse is a specialist whiskey bar in the old town of Vilnius, Lithuania. With a stock of over 300 whiskeys and a talent for creating their own blends, King & Mouse has become a firm favourite among local whiskey enthusiasts. Last year the Lithuanian bar launched their Madeira cask-finished whisky called Queen & Mouse, made using ingredients found in Madeira Island of Portugal. The unique spirit is known as ‘pink’ by whisky professionals due to its natural rose tones.
Celebrating the whiskey’s unique hue, design studio Great & Golden use a minimal palette featuring a soft pink and white that adorns the label. A black outer box featuring pink foil is used to make the whiskey stand out among others in store while still staying in line with the bar branding. Embossed detailing on both label and box adds an element of tactility and premium quality.
With such a broad variety of Whiskeys on offer at King & Mouse, a key factor in the visual identity was to move away from the more conservative, traditional design elements commonly used for Whiskey labels. The pink offers a more feminine touch showing that the world of whisky is open for everyone, further supported by the regal goddess-like illustration employed as the label protagonist.
