Made Thought crafts sustainable packaging design for skincare line, Stella McCartney

With sustainability at the core of the packaging design, Stella’s glass jars are refillable with reusable air pumps that can extract the last drop of the product. The air pump is made of 88% recycled plastic material sourced from Plastic Bank, an organisation that facilitates and pays for plastic collection before it reaches the ocean.

The refill pouches are made of a single material made of wood-based bioplastic replacing virgin petroleum polymers and recycled fibre. An on-off pump eliminates the need for a cap, reducing the amount of plastic. Furthermore, the Stella refill pouches can be used independently of the original jar.

The packaging extends beyond sustainability with the dotted typeface on the top of the air pump spelling out "Stella," and the pouches inside the frosted glass add a soft touch of colour to an otherwise colour-neutral presentation.
