The New Zealand based design studio creates a minimalist visual identity for local distillery Still Water that reflects the spirit brand’s distinctive location and distilling methods.

Still Waters is a boutique distillery situated in an area commonly called ‘Bob’s Cove’, originally known as ‘Waimarino’, which is Maori for Still Waters, in Queenstown New Zealand. The grapes used for the base spirit are those not suitable for wine from local vineyards, and the water is sourced from nearby glacier fields. The Gins are organically infused with native New Zealand botanicals whilst their vodka is 7 X distilled in hand-made small-batch copper stills.

The brand’s visual identity, devised by fellow Queenstown residents Makebardo Studio, focussed on what makes the brand unique, its idyllic location on Bobs Grove and the simple and harmonious approach they take to distilling their spirits. Epitomising the principles of minimalism; order, simplicity, and harmony, Makebardo developed a unique visual motif portraying the swell from the glacier waterfall hitting the water. The impact of water colliding and ripples along the surface creates a striking pattern that adorns the label, playfully juxtaposed against the brand name.

A monochrome palette maintains the minimalist concept as well as creates a contemporary aesthetic and feeling of serenity.
