The all-natural tattoo care balm packaging integrates all the elements of the tattoo world from the way it looks, to the ink used and what they represent.

Blackend is a new tattoo care and maintenance balm by artists Rodrigo Rioji and Aldo Moral that hydrates the skin and helps maintain tattoo colouration and definition. Using purely organic ingredients, Blackened is a natural alternative to synthetic creams and cheap petroleum often applied to heal tattoos.

A key consideration for design studio Mamba when developing the packaging and visual identity was translating Blackend’s philosophy of tattoos being marks of identity, expression, culture and community, as well as embodying the work of Rodrigo Rioji who only uses a thick, deep black ink called the Black Workstyle. With this in mind, Mumba committed to a predominantly black palette for both the tin and outer box, with the additional copy in a clean white font. The logotype boasts a bold, tattoo-like style, embossed, and finished with a shine to provide premium quality, visual clarity and to resemble the slightly raised finish of a tattoo on skin.
