Portuguese winery João Portugal Ramos tasks creative agency DAf with the launch of a new red blend wine in the United States. The brand's visual identity is crafted with a shelf standout that appeals to Gen X and Millennials with the aim of increasing awareness of Portugal’s wine popularity.
DAf, a branding agency, delivers a visual narrative drawing from the rich Portuguese history of wine-making and Lisbon’s association with spies in World War II. The visual appeal of the pack is topped with story-telling indicating a secret society with hidden messages on the wine bottle, the cork, and symbolism significant to spies.
The packaging for the wine is printed in black and white to mimic a vintage portrait of the spy, depicted as a young man with a mustache holding up vintage binoculars with iridescent hues. The brand name appears underneath the main character, while the phrase "Always Watching" adorns the label. DAf uses a bold sans-serif print to create a font that is bold and sensual, evocative, and historic.
