For the launch of their first beer, designer Liger Pham creates a complete label and visual identity for new Vietnamese brewery, Deme Brewing.
Ba Hoa IPA is the first ever beer from Vietnamese Brewery Deme Brewing. The name “Ba Hoa” has several definitions from self-belief, to “3 flowers” which makes reference to the Brewery’s use of three kinds of hops in the beer.
Vietnamese designer Liger Pham had two main aims when developing the label and packaging design; to stand out among the busy craft beer market and clearly communicate who the brewery are and where they come from.
The beer’s name appears in a big vertical typeface that wraps around the can or bottle. Its chunky white font pops against the base red colour of the can label or the brown glass of the bottle, and the bold repeat pattern means that no matter which way you look, you cannot miss the BA HOA title. The ‘IPA’ description appears in a handwritten style, graffitied unapologetically over the repeated product name, signifying the local street culture and the rebellious side of the brand's character.
The brand name repeats in the same white font along the top horizontally which, although smaller in size, also stands out as it’s offset against the product name and cleverly features one highlighted in yellow, matching the Vietnamese flag colours when against the red background.
Rather than using wild illustrations or overt colour schemes, Liger Pham keeps the design simple. The bold white font becomes the key element of the brand’s visual identity which stands out on the shelves, and the choice of colour scheme proudly reflects the culture within which the brewery was created.
