Alvarogdesign delivers a modern biodegradable pasta packaging made entirely from Wheat straw.

MAKARIA is a conceptual organic artisanal pasta brand born from the need to create quality and sustainable fresh frozen pasta. To align with the brand’s use of purely natural, organic ingredients, the product needed a packaging that would match while still communicating quality.

The distinct packaging, designed by Alvaro García is made entirely from agricultural bi-product wheat straw. This waste product is not used as food however offers an ideal material for an entirely biodegradable packaging and produces a distinct earthy tone. In contract to the light, natural palette, illustrations in black ink representing the pasta type within adorns the front of the packaging. This is accompanied by matching black font in its labelling.

The packaging’s unique shape means it is easily transportable and the paper sealant maintains the security of its contents while still upholding an eco-friendly quality. The result is a packaging that stands out visually, due to its unique shape and natural tones veering away from conventional packaging design cues within the category.
