The “Pomelo Mooncake” concept gift box, designed by K LASER Design Lab, is a creative and interactive packaging idea for the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival. What sets this mooncake apart is its unique filling—crafted from pomelos grown in Madou, Tainan, Taiwan. The packaging introduces an engaging “peeling a pomelo” unboxing experience, making the act of opening the gift as enjoyable as celebrating the festival itself.
The exterior of the packaging mimics the thick rind of a pomelo, which naturally encases its sweet, juicy flesh. A single pomelo illustration dominates the design, featuring a vertical tear line. Consumers can peel the box apart from both sides, just like peeling a real pomelo, revealing the mooncakes within. As the box opens, the rich aroma of mooncakes fills the air, heightening the sensory experience and adding to the excitement.
The theme of “pomelo hiding mooncakes” is thoughtfully carried through the design, inside and out. The outer visuals feature three artistic interpretations of peeling a pomelo, evoking heartwarming memories of enjoying pomelos with family and friends during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The top lid showcases a large pomelo, and upon lifting it, the inner tray is revealed, housing four elegantly arranged pomelo mooncakes. The act of removing each mooncake mimics the joy of peeling a pomelo, making the unboxing experience both playful and memorable. Additionally, an informative fold-out leaflet accompanies the gift box, offering insights into the mooncakes’ unique ingredients, further enriching the overall experience.
Inside the box, there are four greeting cards, each adorned with pomelo-themed elements, mirroring the four pomelo mooncakes inside. These cards allow gift-givers to share warm wishes with loved ones, spreading happiness and celebrating togetherness. From its fun unboxing experience to its sentimental greeting cards, this meticulously designed gift box perfectly captures the festive spirit, creating lasting memories for those who receive it.
