The designer delivers a package design based on Kanji characters for Japanese-flavoured spice brand
This spice is a Japanese-flavoured spice sold in German markets. Therefore, the package design is based on Kanji characters. Each kanji has its own meaning, and the impression one receives from a kanji can vary greatly depending on the choice of typeface and style. Kanji characters are hieroglyphs or ideographs, with origins significantly different from those of the alphabet. Calligraphy, an art form that aesthetically expresses characters, is a major genre of Eastern art that explores this through various calligraphic styles and brush strokes, presenting potential for aesthetic expression.
This product is designed for a European audience, portraying the spiciness of chili peppers, the shape of yuzu citron, and furikake (sprinkles) dancing in the air by treating Chinese characters as graphic elements. It aims to enable more people in Europe to understand and enjoy the possibilities of Kanji expression, and hopes that the knowledge and sense of such design will become widespread and further developed.
